Hi All
This week, another online news portal in Malaysia hits cyberspace. The Malaysian Mirror is a pro-BN cyber newspaper that is being bankrolled by former Minister of Science Law Heng Dieng, current MCA President Ong Tee Keat and Clement Hii, the current Star CEO. (Note that Law and Clement are both Sarawakians.) Why are they doing this? Well, it's an effort on their part to try and pitch a more critical (but within limits) cyberspace-based perspective to society.
The Chief Editor is also a Sarawakian, Francis Siah. Clement Hii and Ong Tee Keat are also very close friends - which also explains how Clement got his current RM400k per month job in The Star taking over from Steven Tham (who was paid RM800k per month under the last MCA administration.)

Why are they doing this? We suspect it is a cyber-vehicle designed to corner the East Malaysian cyber-market for news as time goes on. This is going to challenge the Borneo Post (and the Chinese press Sin Chew and International Times) current monopoly over here (which is good) but it is also reflective of the political tensions within the Chinese community here in Sarawak.
Will they survive? Will they have an impact? Depends on how deep their pockets are...
Salam hormat.
