A former research assistant to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was arrested last Friday after police allegedly discovered two pistols and 305 grams of ganja in the vehicle he was travelling in.
Muhammed Yusoff Rawther was detained around 9.30am on Sept 6 in Kuala Lumpur and is currently being held under police remand, according to his lawyer, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali.
Rafique explained that while the case was initially being investigated under the Arms Act 1960, it is now being pursued under the Dangerous Drugs Act after the remand application under the Arms Act was rejected.
Yusoff has denied any involvement with the pistols and drugs, claiming they were planted by individuals with personal vendettas against him.
A urine test also came back negative. Yusoff has provided names of those he believes are responsible, along with their connections to political leadership.
His remand is set to end on Sept 12, with further updates expected later today.
