Hari ini menerima kunjungan hormat Menteri Luar Rusia Sergey Lavrov yang kini dalam lawatan rasmi dua hari ke Malaysia bermula Sabtu di Seri Perdana, Putrajaya.
Perbincangan kami seputar isu penyertaan Malaysia ke dalam gabungan BRICS yang merupakan antara intipati utama perbincangan, dan Malaysia telah menghantar surat permohonan kepada Rusia selaku Pengerusi organisasi antara kerajaan, BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China dan Afrika Selatan) baru-baru ini.
Kami menyentuh aspek pengukuhan kerjasama dua hala, dan Malaysia menegaskan agar hubungan sedia ada dipertingkat dan diperkukuh terutama dalam sektor pelaburan dan perdagangan, sains dan teknologi, pertanian, pertahanan dan ketenteraan, pendidikan serta pelancongan dan budaya.
Saya diapit Menteri Luar Negeri Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Menteri Pertahanan Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin dan Menteri Pendidikan Tinggi Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir dalam pertemuan ini.
Perbincangan turut memberi penekanan berkaitan isu sejagat melibatkan situasi terkini di Palestin dengan kedua-dua negara menekankan keperluan mendesak untuk gencatan senjata secara kekal, bantuan kemanusiaan segera selain Negara Palestin diperaku sebagai ahli penuh Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu (PBB). Berkenaan Ukraine, Malaysia menyeru agar dialog dan perbincangan menjadi jalan keluar kepada konflik ini.

Received a courtesy call from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during his two-day official visit to Malaysia at Seri Perdana, Putrajaya.
Our discussions primarily centered on Malaysia’s recent application for membership in the BRICS alliance, which Russia currently chairs. This potential membership holds substantial promise for both nations and underscores our commitment to fostering robust international collaboration.
We also explored avenues to enhance bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on strengthening ties in key areas such as investment and trade, science and technology, agriculture, defense and military, education, and tourism and culture.
Our conversation extended to pressing global issues, including the ongoing situation in Palestine. Both Malaysia and Russia underscored the imperative need for a permanent ceasefire, immediate humanitarian relief, and the recognition of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations. Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Malaysia reiterated its stance on the importance of dialogue and diplomatic efforts as the path to a sustainable resolution.
This engagement reflects our shared dedication to addressing global challenges and advancing a cooperative international agenda.
